چکیده
Abstract Introduction Sleep related movement disorders (SRMD) such as restless leg syndrome (RLS), periodic limb disorder (PLMD), and sleep (RSD) are common diagnoses among children referred to pediatric clinics, particularly with neurodevelopmental ASD. These have been associated low iron status, evidence demonstrates clinical response supplementation. Oral supplementation is often used a first step in management, although some do not manifest an adequate serum ferritin levels, or tolerate oral due side effects taste. For these children, infusions may be attractive therapeutic strategy. Methods We performed retrospective chart review of for infusion between January 2021 November 2022 at Kaiser Permanente Northern California Pediatric Clinics. Children carried diagnosis RLS, PLMD, RSD. Iron sucrose was used, target dose 6-7mg/kg, maximum 200mg per infusion. reviewed the number infusions, pre- post-infusion based on clinic notes and/or secure message communication after Results A total 11 were identified who received least one Mean age time 7.2 (4.5) years, 63.6% male, 45.5% diagnosed The most PLMD (54.5%), followed by RLS (27.3%), RSD (18.2%). 130.5mg (41.6) average 2.0 (1.1) infusions. prior 30.1 (20.1) 62.6ng/mL (41.1) post Based review, families reported symptomatic improvement following No worsening significant Conclusion effective strategy management recalcitrant iron. Iron is an essential element necessary for energy production, DNA and neurotransmitter synthesis, myelination and phospholipid metabolism. Neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA) involves several genetic disorders, two of which, aceruloplasminemia and neuroferritinopathy, are caused by mutations in genes directly involved in iron metabolic pathway, and others, such as pantothenate...
